Designing Urbio meant tackling a highly technical planning process and making it accessible through a clear, intuitive interface. The tool needed to handle complex geospatial data, reflect the nuanced workflows of energy planners, and showcase the “magic” of auto-generating solutions, while still offering flexibility for custom inputs and side-by-side scenario comparisons.

Our research process involved in-depth interviews with energy planners and engineers from both public and private sectors to understand their workflows, needs, and pain points. We conducted a thorough analysis of existing tools and user flows to identify gaps and opportunities. In parallel, we facilitated stakeholder brainstorming sessions to co-create and visualize solution ideas, ensuring the final design aligned with both technical requirements and user expectations.

Urbio has emerged as a promising tool with the potential to revolutionize urban planning by helping professionals design more energy-efficient environments. Our collaboration resulted in streamlined user flows, intuitive interface design, and smart visualizations that enable planners to easily navigate complex data and make informed decisions in both new developments and retrofitting projects.
