The app was designed to connect Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers globally - giving them a space to share stories, exchange experiences, and support one another. Focused on empowerment and community, the platform aimed to amplify volunteer voices and foster a stronger sense of belonging across regions.

The Challenge
Designing the app meant addressing the diverse realities of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide - from tech-enabled environments to low-connectivity, resource-limited settings. We had to validate the need for the platform among volunteers, while also navigating the organizational structures and hierarchical limitations of different National Societies.

The XD Process
The XD process was rooted in extensive global research, recognizing the scale and significance of a platform serving over 16 million volunteers. We reached out to volunteers and staff across diverse regions, collecting insights through interviews, surveys, and collaborative sessions. This wide-reaching approach allowed us to deeply understand their needs, motivations, and daily realities, ensuring the design was both inclusive and grounded in real-world experiences.

The Outcomes
The project resulted in the successful development of a mobile application designed specifically for Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers, enabling connection, storytelling, and community building. In parallel, we created detailed mockups for a complementary web-based version of the tool, focused on content oversight and administrative management.
